Origination of Vivism

The author of this website, also founder and director of the Nature Protection Foundation (http://www.vivism.info/pageID_5808169.html), Nicolas Pleumekers, when having finished his academic study, had not yet finished searching for the answer on several life-questions, which activity had become very important to him.

But because he always planned to add another field section to his study, notwithtanding much opposition against this in his direct environment and the accompanying obstruction, he did, which permitted him to go on 'digging'.

After having concluded earlier, that:

- astrology can bea very good guide in understanding other people and a lot of what happens in the world,

- it's very much worth while, to be100% honest;

- it's important, to leave behind as much as possible, of what is polluting environment, like driving car;

- animals should'nt be eaten at all,

- it's very much worth while, to stop common activities like using alcoholic drinks, tabacco-products and watching (especcially moving) cameraproducts,

in 1985 he found out, how great it is, to stop eating plants.

Plants

After often having thought, that it's not consequent, to on one hand avoid eating animals, because they have to be killed for that, but on the other hand eat plants unlimited, although they also have to be killed, in that year circumstances gave him the cause, to decide to stop eating plants as well. It immediately turned out to bring a big difference in positive sense. In a way it was like having stepped into a lift, up to higher floors. (Later on it turned out to be from underground floors, back to the (natural) ground-floor).

After some ten years of this, suddenly there was the moment, that it was fantastic, to see and be near Flora. It was as if plantworld had forgiven him all, he had done to her once and given him back his natural place, close to her. Since then it's about the best place to be. More like home, than anything else.

Veganism

About two years later his first aquaintance with Veganism took place. Reading the introduction-leaflet of a Vegetarian Union, he saw the word "veganism" for the first time. "Veganists either don’t consume animal products, that don't take the killing the animal (for instance milk)", it said.

"What the hell can be wrong with drinking cow-milk?", was the question, that was posed immediately to a Vegan organisation.

After a written dispute, that took several months, the principal person of this true story was delighted, to let that organisation know, he was convinced. In return he could assure its board, that it's even better, not to (kill and) eat plants eather.

This total respect for animal-life, which not only leads to not killing them, but also to treating them in a most respectfull way, by not taking anything from them, including their natural freedom, was the key, that opened a heavy door, towards the answer on the big question, that always had bothered him: "What is it, that makes man have to undergo all the punishments, he usually has to?".

Vivism

For from here it was not a big step to the thought, that plants as well could and maybe should be treaten in such a total respectfull way; so not just by not eating them, but by leaving them perfectly in peace, the way veganists do to animals.

After having thought over, what total respect for life and well-being of plants would include, and having noticed, what a remarkable releaf practising this principle brought, he realised, that earlier changings of behaviour, like becoming 100% honest, that also brought a conciderable change in positive sence, in fact also were ways of increasing respect for some category of living beings, this time humans. (For being dishonest as good as always leads to one or more other persons being at least treaten rudely).  So why not add total respect for life and well-being of these creatures? It might lead to the same most positive kind of result as it did in relation to animals and plants.

In this way during the two years that followed, the peaces of the puzzle, that were available then, were put together. This resulted in a clear image of what it would be in the end: a filosophy of life, based on the conviction, that Earth can be paradise, on condition that man treats all kinds of living beings as urbane as possible.

To several organisations the proposed name of this new filosophy was communicated in 1991. No objections were made known against: "Vivism".

Bacteria

Early 1998 attention was strongly directed to further elaboration of Vivism again.

Untill then, in its description, under "all kinds of living beings" were understood: "humans, animals and plants". But in the awareness of the fact, that there's another category of living beings, althought they naturally are invisible, once and a while the thought occurred, that maybe the vivistic principle could and should be practised in relation to them as well. Personal knowledge about these beings however was rather small, so that as good as no imagination could be made of the way(s), in which this could take place. This situation lasted, untill in a store there was a booklet, in which there was a chapter called: "The Bacterium".

Having read this chapter, it was as if a world came tumbling down. These bacteria are real living beings and they die in a probably very cruel way, any time that fire is made or soap-products are used. So sticking to the Vivistic principle would mean: leaving all behind, that includes fire being made, soap being used, or that kills bacteria in another way !!!!!

Two years of more or less dismayed resignation followed. Realising, what the consequences of this would be for all-day life, was a rather disconcerting activity. This might bring very big changes to nowadays society !

Still this new element was fitted into the description of Vivism. Meanwhile a start was made with practising it. This was a very interesting aspect and here as well the relief was conciderable. It turned out to be another big step forward to a fully nature- (= life-) friendly way of behaviour, which doesn't give any cause to any kind of punishment.

Soon the end of the 20 th century came, with a global fear for a break up of industrial society, due to defects in the programming of its computers.

Raw-food

By end of April in the new year (and century) a website was found about "Raw-foodism". It was great, to find out, that there are others, who reject eating cooked food as well; (be it, that their motivation is not primarily in the wish not to kill bacteria by fire, but in health-arguments, and that they (still) eat plants).

Later, in a newspaper-report about Fruitarianism, it said, that the book "The raw-food diet" was very much worth reading. After having done this (partly), knowledge of many more arguments for trying to eat 100% raw, helped in reaching an essentially bigger percentage, then the about 50, that used to be. When at some 80% raw, to him it was prooved, that the central theme of this book is right: "Raw-food is very good for health".

Later on, as good as 100% raw was reached. By now (2008) it still is somewhere between 95 and 98%.

Environment

In other fields as well big progress has been made in practising Vivism; especcially reduction of energy use was sensational; no more heating and as little lighting as possible, resulted in a bill of some 1,5 Eur. a year !!

Domestic use of plastics keeps being reduced and more and more ways are found, to make all kinds of soap completely unmissed.

Indeed, practising Vivismis is also very positive for environmental salvation.
